GREG HOUGHTON, the owner of Houghton Brothers Fencing in Nowra, New South Wales talks with THE FENCE magazine about his fencing business.
How did you get into the fencing industry?
I had been a greenkeeper 2IC for 10 years on a golf course. I had always wanted to start my own business.
With Amy working in real estate we knew there was a shortage of professional fencers so when the opportunity came up we took the plunge.
What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile?
The most rewarding part is seeing a completed job and the instant transformation it has on a clients property.
Fencing is such an important part of property it is rewarding when you can provide a high quality job and professional customer service.
What is the most interesting fencing job you have worked on?
The most interesting job is a big commercial job we are completing at the moment.
We are constructing 3 different types of fencing on a large scale and it’s great to see it all come together.
Working on a large building site brings lots of obstacles but it’s great putting your skills to work.
Where do you see the fencing industry heading?
I see the industry always growing due to population and housing growth.
People will always need fences.
What’s the best thing about FENCiT?

To change the way the public view fencing and fencers.
