Chinatown streetscape upgrades to begin

Broome’s Chinatown Revitalisation Project is set to enter its next stage, with construction to begin on major streetscape upgrades in Carnarvon Street and Dampier Terrace in September 2018.

A $6.9 million contract was awarded to Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd following a procurement process which assessed submissions against a range of criteria including value for money, experience, and ensuring significant local content in the project.

Improvements for Carnarvon Street and Dampier Terrace include streetscapes with improved shade during the day and lighting at night, alfresco meeting places and street furniture, trees and green space plantings and traffic calming measures.

Designs that reflect and recall Chinatown’s history and heritage and use Kimberley wood and stone are featured throughout the works.

Works are expected to be complete by early 2019.
